Things to do in Wexford for a Magical Christmas
Christmas is the most magical time of year. Everybody is trying to keep with the spirit of Christmas and make unforgettable memories and traditions with their families, and albeit Christmas 2020 is unprecedented, it is still a magical time to look forward to.
Going abroad to the Christmas markets has always been in popular demand but this year Ireland #FeelsBigger and why not #MakeABreakForIt and plan a Christmas getaway to Enniscorthy. We have compiled a list of activities and things to do for a magical Christmas. See your kids bask in the enjoyment and make magical memories and traditions for years to come. What to do:
See the Christmas lights with loved ones
Most towns make a big deal out of switching on the Christmas lights. These events are a great opportunity to take some family photos and get into the Christmas spirit. Here at Treacy’s Hotel Enniscorthy, we switch our Christmas lights on in November with a little help from Santa’s elves who will be popping down from Enniscorthy’s own Santa’s Enchanted Castle, a magical Santa experience for all the family.
Wexford town also sees the Christmas lights lighten up the town in late November with all the characters from Santa’s Enchanted Castle in attendance to help Santa, along with a parade to showcase all the fun Christmas in Wexford has to offer.
Choose your Christmas tree
While having an artificial Christmas tree is convenient, there is nothing more magical and entertaining than taking the whole family to pick a live tree and what more than to support local in doing so. The closest tree farm to Enniscorthy is Wheelock’s Christmas Trees which has since been rebranded to The Village at Wheelocks. While the main event of the day is to pick and bring home a Christmas tree, The Village at Wheelocks offers so much more to the family. From their vast array of fresh fruit and jams, a café and restaurant, farm animals and nature walks as well as a playground for the tots, what more do you need for a fun Christmas day out with family or friends this Christmas.
Watch Christmas movies with family and friends
As the temperature starts to drop outside, there is nothing more appealing than watching Christmas Movies. Catch up on the TV Guide, check in on all of the channels and avail of the comfort of our rooms at Treacy’s Hotel Enniscorthy after a long, cold day of exploring Wexford. Avail of our room service, take advantage of our cosy rooms and get into the festive spirit. Watching movies will add to the anticipation and excitement of the festival season in Wexford. Another suggestion is to check out Omniplex Cinema Wexford’s listings during the Christmas holidays to avail and check in on offers they have for the festive season.
Make Reindeer Food
Mix some porridge oats and glitter together and you bask in the excitement of having some “Magic Reindeer Food” in your own hands. Sprinkle the mix of oats and glitter in the yard – the glimmer in the moonlight will light the way for Santa and his sleigh and the reindeer will have something to eat after all their hard work.
Make a Christmas Eve Box
This is a great tradition to start and it adds a little magic and sparkle to Christmas Eve for kids of all ages. Why not support local and collect pieces of produce from local producers and crafters from Wexford. Ireland #FeelsBigger when we avail of all of the local producers we have on offer across the country and Wexford which contributes to a fraction of Ireland’s food industry.
Fill a simple Christmas box with Christmas Eve treats to get the whole family involved in the magic of Christmas. Some ideas include some chocolates and treats from local Wexford producers, a snuggly pair of Pyjamas, hot chocolate with all the trimmings and a Christmas book or movie.
Visit Santa
The activity that every child looks forward to the most every Christmas is visiting Santa, and here at Treacys Hotel Wexford, we have teamed up with Enniscorthy’s very own Santa’s Enchanted Castle to offer a magical overnight package complete with a visit to Santa himself. The visit includes indulging on a yummy Ginger Bread man for every child on arrival and a Santa’s Enchanted Castle souvenir Bauble to take home for every family’s Christmas tree. This is a must thing to do in Wexford to ensure Christmas for each family is special and magically enjoyed. Avail of the offers we run during the Christmas period and enjoy overnight accommodation.
Family visits to Santa’s Enchanted Castle are where families will truly venture through the magical Santa’s Enchanted Castle; Exploring the Noisy Elves Workshop and Magical Time Machine. Visit Santa’s Post Box to post your letter and take a sneak at peak at both Santa and the elves bedroom. Ensure to sample some of the yummy treats Mrs Claus will have to offer from her Traditional Sweet Shop while also enjoying the games, fun and laughter with our Crazy Elves, Frozen Characters, Red Riding Hood and Jack Frost before you meet Santa Claus. Luckily, Santa will also have a gift for each child to indulge in upon arrival.
Make a break for it in Ireland this Christmas and explore what Wexford has to offer during this magical and festival season at Treacy’s Hotel Enniscorthy.
